Annual Convention

Printer-friendly version

More than 300 activity professionals attended APO's 2009 convention which celebrated 25 years of the organization and was held October at Blue Mountain in Collingwood.

APO's next convention will take place in Toronto, October 20-22, 2010, at the Sheraton Toronto Airport Hotel and Conference Centre.

There is so much we can accomplish in our field, and there is comfort in knowing we are all there for one another, navigating through the changes that we are currently going through and those to come.

Speaking at Convention

It is with great pleasure that we introduce this year's Keynote and Endnote Speaker, Carol Ann Fried.  Carol Ann Fried, of Friedom Training and Coaching Services, has been leading seminars and consulting with Business, education, health, government and the helping profession for over twenty years.  She is a master trainer and award-winning motivational speaker.  Her sessions are invariably hailed as practical, dynamic and fun.

Keynote Address:  Carol will be kicking off convention with her upbeat and entertaining Keynote "Laughing Matters."  During this session, delegates will learn about the value of playfulness in the workplace and experie ncing it firsthand. Carol Ann will teach the delegates the value of Four Principles of Wellness on the Job.  This energizing yet practical presentation focuses on having MORE FUN as opposed to having LESS STRESS.

Endnote Address:  We all work in an environment where we give unconditionally.  Carol Ann will end convention with her empowering Endnote "The Joy of Giving." Carol Ann will highlight how kindness and generosity will improve productivity, heighten team spirit and lengthen you life.  You'll discover the more you give, the more you have.

Convention Overview:  We are thrilled to announce that Gail Elliot, from McMaster Centre for Gerontological Studies, McMaster University will be kicking off Convention with the Early Bird Session entitled New and Unique Horizons in Dementia Care: A Focus On Montessori for Dementia Care.

APO seeks sponsors for Convention 2010

Dear prospective sponsor:

Activity Professionals of Ontario (APO) is a non-profit organization of recreation specialists dedicated to educating, networking, and development in the activity discipline.  Recreational and leisure needs are an essential component of social health and well being in our senior population.   APO is working diligently with the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, affiliated professionals and educators to develop Best Practices for the provision of Recreation and Leisure services in geriatric and long term care settings.

This year APO is celebrating a special event.  APO will be hosting our 26th anniversary convention October 20-22, 2010 at the Sheraton Airport Hotel & Conference Centre in Toronto, Ontario.  Last year we exceeded our registration goal and celebrated another successful convention.  We are anticipating between 350-375 delegates this year, as we are in a central and convenient location.

Our convention is an excellent opportunity for you to access and advertise to Activity Professionals from all over Ontario.  We are soliciting sponsorship from corporations like yours who are involved in the long term care setting and wish to market your company.  Enclosed please find a sponsor package for the upcoming convention.  There are several options for involvement and advertising.  Please respond before September 1st, 2010 to ensure adequate time to acknowledge your generosity and establish your package details.
