2009 Outstanding Activity of the Year

Submitted by Trisha Shearer, The Woodingford Lodge in Tillsonburg

The winner of this year's "Activity of the Year Award" is Trisha Shearer of the Woodingford Lodge in Tillsonburg for her submission of "A Journey Through Technology".

This program was used to bridge generations together and included many participants from the Woodingford and the local community.  Students from the local community came in and interviewed residents to discover how technology has changed careers over the years and later returned to do presentations about what they had learned in interviewing the residents. The residents and students took part in a fashion show through the generations and a technology demonstration.

This program required the support of all of the departments at Woodingford Lodge to make it the success it was.

This program really focused on learning for both the residents and the students – in looking at an old typewriter, one student asked where the backspace button was to correct a mistake, and the resident explained that if you made a mistake you had to start over again or could cover it up with x's or white out. The student could not figure out how any reports got done!

On behalf of APO, congratulations Trisha for a job well done!
